As you may know, significant federal funding for libraries and museums comes from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), of which I am a board member. The last legislative reauthorization expanded its role in advising the President and Congress on national policy on the public's access to information. You may recall that NCLIS used to have a policy advisory role, and this has been folded into the new mission of the IMLS.
YOUR IDEAS are requested concerning the strategic directions that IMLS should lead the nation's libraries and museums in. Although your ideas are always welcome, NOW is the time that the agency is writing its five year strategic plan. YOU CAN put in your ideas, discuss others' ideas, and vote on the best ideas between now and FRIDAY AUGUST 12. It's also an easy way to try out ideascale, a social media tool that lets users put in ideas, discuss, and vote for the best ideas.
